Former Arizona and current Xavier coach Sean Miller won’t face any sanctions, according to the full IARP ruling document. Miller denied knowing of assistant Emanuel Richardson's activities that resulted in corruption and fraud charges.
The hearing panel determined that Miller demonstrated that he promoted an atmosphere of compliance and monitored two of his assistant coaches regarding the academic eligibility of men’s basketball prospective student athletes, rebutting the presumption of head coach responsibility.
There will be a reduction in the total number of Arizona men’s basketball scholarships for the incoming class of the 2023-24 academic year by one from the total of 13.Wednesday’s announcement finally brings closure to a long, complicated process that began on Sept. 27, 2017, when Arizona assistant coach Emanuel “Book” Richardson was among 10 men who were arrested by federal agents on various corruption and fraud charges.
A major reason why it took so long to get to this point was that the NCAA had been instructed by prosecutors to withhold from investigating these matters until all the trials were done. The NCAA passed a rule allowing its enforcement staff to use the evidence collected at the trials in their investigations against the schools involved.
