Controversial SATs test left pupils in tears - try the English test for 10-year-olds

With many professionals and parents already criticising the tests for 10 and 11 year olds, one headteacher's account of how much Wednesday's English paper affected her pupils has added fuel to the fire.

After writing a letter to her MP calling for the assessments to be scrapped, she then shared it online and was inundated with messages of support.Hundreds of M.E.N. readers also reacted with fury to the tests, saying their children - even those working at greater depth - had come home crying because they'd struggled so much with it.Last year's reading paper, which is said to be much easier, is available online, if you fancy your chances with it.

They had an hour to answer the questions and were told to read one text and answer the relevant questions before moving onto the next.
