🎂 Happy 75th birthday NHS The NHS is locked into a “spiral of decline”, with senior medics warning that problems such as long waiting lists, corridor care and staffing levels could worsen before they get better 🔴 PMGallagher1 reports
: “The spiral of decline has developed over the past decade. NHS urgent and emergency care provision is under significant strain in all four home nations and epitomises the whole system.
Dr Cooksley said patients will still be receiving corridor care and having poor experiences in hospitals this winter. He called for “urgent short-term actions” – such as extra payments for health care staff to ensure safe staffing levels and a “definitive resolution to strikes” – to prevent a repeat. “We may not yet have reached the nadir,” Dr Cooksley said.
On the 75th anniversary of the NHS today three leading think-tanks say “addiction to short-termism” is putting the health service’s future at risk. King Charles meets staff and patients at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, to celebrate 75 years of the NHS at NHS Lothian Nick Kaye said: “In the wake of the Covid pandemic, pharmacies are developing themselves as clinical service providers at the heart of the NHS, not just a medicines supply service. Having become the go-to source of primary healthcare advice during the crisis, we are now being commissioned to provide urgent care for common medical conditions and public health interventions, such as monitoring blood pressure and spotting signs of cancer.
“Last week, we published the first ever NHS Long Term Workforce Plan to ensure we train, retain, reform and make the most of our talented and experienced staff. Backed by over £2.4bn of government funding, this 15-year plan will give the NHS certainty and deliver the biggest ever workforce training expansion in its history.
