There was a late twist in the tale at Davitt Park as Clan na Gael claimed a remarkable draw with county champions Crossmaglen thanks to a goal from Shane McPartlan deep in injury-time.
Crossmaglen had led by four with Aaron Kernan’s point after 60 minutes, but the home side struck for 1-1 in injury-time to gain a point from their Senior Football Championship opener.
Cross captain Jamie Clarke also chipped in with a couple of classy points and set up Oisin O’Neill for the score which gave the South Armagh side the lead for the first time on 28 minutes. Substitute Ronan Fitzpatrick also landed two points from play when introduced and, despite a cracking effort from McPartlan at the other end, O’Neill’s third point from play gave Cross a three-point cushion inside the final 10 minutes.
