A 'sheepish young driver' was caught reaching speeds of over 140MPH on the M6 before their car was seized by police on Saturday night .
Police said the car had been spotted being driven in the third lane of the motorway at 96mph - 26mph over the legal limit - before it was requested to pull over and stop by officers. However, instead of doing so, Lancashire Police said the driver decided to 'put their foot down' and went on to reach speeds over 140mph as a chase ensued.

A post shared by Lancashire Road Police said: "Last night this car in lane 3 was on M6 driving at 96mph. Before it was requested to stop, the driver decided to put their foot down and reached speeds over 140mph. Vehicle was seized and a sheepish young driver reported for several offences."
