Shell force-fitted more than 4,000 prepayment meters in the UK last year as the international oil and gas giant made more than £32bn in profits 🔴 Exclusive from deankirby_

– the highest in the oil and gas giant’s 115-year history – as millions of Britons struggled to pay their energy bills.

The company also posted record earnings of £7.9bn for the final three months of last year. New figures released yesterday show a profit of almost £7.7bn in the first three months of 2023. Staff at Shell Energy were told a “strategic review” of the division was taking place. Shell said at the time that “no decisions” had been made and the review would take “a number of months”.

“Our priority is helping our customers, and we recently funded an extra £150 winter payment to all customers who were eligible for the warm home discount, as well as providing millions of pounds in support payments to customers who need it through our HelpFund.
