They are faced with a lot of problems

Ilkeston shop owners have told of anti-social behaviour that's plaguing the town centre, following an increase in the number of reports to police. Those working in Bath Street, Ilkeston, have opened up on the problems they are facing in the town centre.

"We've shut our doors at times to protect people if something is going on outside." Lucy Martin, a 37-year-old shop worker, added: "You see them sometimes throwing things. Inspector Ed Browne, who leads the policing team in Ilkeston, said: “In recent weeks we have seen an increase in incidents of anti-social behaviour involving young teenagers in Ilkeston town centre. These incidents have involved criminal damage, threatening and abusive language, and, as was seen this weekend, eggs being thrown.

"While we are continuing to work hard on this issues there are two requests to our community. One – If you are a parent or carer of a child in Ilkeston please take responsibility for them. Some of the incidents that have taken place have been at 3am – and those involved can be no more than 13 years old, with some looking much younger.
