Shunned black teacher wins payout after being replaced for less qualified white colleague by LeahMahon_
Mrs Burton York had been an 'outstanding' teacher at Douay Martyrs Catholic Secondary School since 2004A BLACK teacher who was racially discriminated against has won up to £460,000 after she was shunned in her senior role and a white “less qualified” colleague took on her top job instead.
Mrs Burton-York went on to sue Douay Martyrs for their role in discriminating against her because of her race and for unfair dismissal from her much-loved job. However, one candidate who was eligible for early retirement ended up not re-applying for their job, which left four candidates for five remaining jobs roles – including Mrs Burton-York.
A tribunal report said: “She was not given any written feedback about what had led to her being unsuccessful.
