Simon Case has been accused of taking a hard line against Sue Gray in an attempt to 'please the Tories' and keep hold of his own job
Mr Case has come under sustained fire in recent days with question marks appearing over his suitability for the role in the wake of thePolitical historian and biographer Anthony Seldon, who has most recently charted Boris Johnson’s time in No 10, said it was time for Mr Case to resign, branding the Civil Service a “team without a captain”.
Downing Street dismissed claims that the Cabinet Secretary held a personal grudge against Ms Gray, adding that Rishi Sunak had full confidence in him. “This is a process that is being carried out by the Cabinet Office, not by one single individual,” the PM’s spokesman said. “Of course, the Cabinet Secretary is focused on delivering the Prime Minister’s priorities. You heard the Prime Minister speak quite recently about his regard for the Cabinet Secretary.”
