Sir Jim Ratcliffe will need to oversee progressive, forward-thinking changes at Man United if he secures a 25 per cent stake in the club.
The prospect of Sir Jim Ratcliffe securing investment in Manchester United has the potential to be the catalyst for a much-needed change in direction at Old Trafford.
Investing in United, however, would mark their biggest acquisition yet. They are, after all, of the biggest sporting powerhouses in the world. Money has been spent on players, not least since Ten Hag arrived at the club from Ajax, but that has not been as a result of the Glazers diving into their pockets; the money spent on new additions has been generated by various sources of revenue.
United's recruitment failings down the years are now at serious risk of catching up with them unless they change how they operate and start to understand the importance of offloading players at the right time. Liverpool and Manchester City have mastered the art in recent years, offloading previously key members of their squads at the right juncture to ensure they recouped respectable transfer fees.
"You are in trouble if you do that in one or two or three consecutive transfer windows. Club building is about building the right squad by transferring the right players away and having more than a 50 per cent success rate of bringing in the right players. Then you must have the best possible coaches to develop these players."
