Five people have been shot dead in Plymouth during what police described as a ‘critical incident’.
Home Secretary Priti Patel described what happened as ‘shocking’, urging people to remain calm. She was given regular updates on the situation, believed to be Britain’s first involving an active shooter for 11 years, since Derrick Bird murdered 12 people in Cumbria in 2010. Robert Pinkerton aged 54, told Plymouth Live that he was on Henderson Place when he heard a loud bang, turned a corner and bumped into a man then ‘swerved’ when he saw the gun.One person wrote on social media: ‘There’s [a man] on the rampage in my cul-de-sac with a real gun and he’s already shot two people.Another person alleged: ‘The guy shot members of his family then went out onto the street.’
