It supports hundreds of people - and has been described as a lifeline
A small Nottingham charity that is ‘busier than ever before’ has opened up about how they are continuing to help service users amid the pressure of the cost of living crisis. Improving Lives has been a registered charity since 2012 and helps reduce social isolation, mental and physical health, increase independence and more. The charity, based at the International Community Centre on Mansfield Road, in the city centre, is seeing a surge in helping people with multiple disadvantages.
Jennie Birch, the communications and fundraising officer for the charity, said: “Things have been tricky, we’re busier than ever before. In the last 12 months, we’ve supported 410 people which is a huge number for us but we couldn’t not do it.” Tina Perkins is the volunteer coordinator for the charity. Tina said: “Volunteering is amazing, I feel like lockdown birthed volunteering; support workers couldn’t go out to see everyone and our befriending service was there to help others.
