It has welcomed generations of customers for over 250 years
A snug pub loved by people from across Merseyside and beyond sits on its own island 38 minutes away from Liverpool.
"I was 10 when I moved here and my brother would have been 16, they just wanted to have a slower pace of life really. The pub had been derelict for two and a half years and then the brewery at the time, John Smith, they approached my mum and dad and said we think this is a pub that would suit you and they started from scratch.
"We’re pretty certain we’ve filled all the gaps now - but we've got a list of every licensee since the day it was licenced. I think we’re one of the longest serving families here now. In 2005, Jade's parents decided to retire and Jade, then a 21 year-old graduate and Andy, a police officer, saw it as an opportunity for them to "take a leap of faith" and take over the business themselves. Andy said: "We’re a quarter of a mile from the nearest housing estate.
Over the years, the cask-driven pub has has many milestones, from being featured in CAMRA’s Beer Guide for the last 25 years to winning North Cheshire Pub of the Year in 2023. At the heart of the community, generations of the same family continue to be loyal customers and "most people have worked at The Ferry Tavern at some point."Many from Merseyside often make the journey to The Ferry Tavern, as do others from across the North West.
