Sarah Archer was found lying on the ground by her partner Innes Watson, who had been travelling behind in a separate car, after the head-on collision.

A woman who suffered serious injuries in a terrifying road crash told her partner she was "sorry he had to watch her die" in the moments after her accident.

Innes pulled over and raced to help victims at the scene, then quickly recognised Sarah's wrecked car. "But then I realised one of the car's was Sarah's. I could see how bad the wreckage was and my first thought was that she might be dead. Sarah was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and underwent emergency 10-hour surgery to repair a broken right foot, shattered knee caps, broken ribs, two broken wrists and multiple fingers.
