Another home defeat against Bournemouth might finally have torpedoed Spurs’ fading chances of a top four finish. Small wonder fan patience has run out.To a point, you almost have to admire Tottenham Hotspur for the inventive ways in which they manage toSome clubs might have a malfunctioning manager and a group of unhappy players who need a rocket up their collective backside. Others might have facilities that need upgrading. But that’s not the Spurs way, not in 2023.
In other words, the race for a place in the top four this season has had more than a little give. This has not been one of those seasons in which clubs have had to maintain blistering form just to stay in touch with the clubs chasing a Champions League place, and yet Spurs are continuing to come up short, a situation that becomes all the more worrying when we consider the inertia within the club.
While other clubs may not listen to their fans, at least they pay some sort of lip service to the idea of consulting with the thousands of people who pay through the nose to keep this whole shebang going in the first place. And the gossamer-thin silver lining that “at least things aren’t as bad as they are at Chelsea or Liverpool” is somewhat tempered by the understanding that these two clubs are undergoing temporary blips that will likely soon be restored through a combination of the brute forces of money and Big Club Arrogance.
