The Saints boss decided to go on the offensive in the second half despite being a man down in Paisley.
Stephen Robinson paid tribute to his battling Buddies for staying in the game and allowing him to throw the attacking dice against Rangers.
And while Rangers ultimately went on to secure all three points thanks to an Abdallah Sima effort and a stunning late second strike from Tavernier, the Buddies boss was still pleased with the character his players showed to stay in the match for so long. “Our changes were positive in our minds but maybe I should have stayed in the game until the 90th minute and hoped for a long ball or free kick. But that’s not what we’re about.”
“I was miles away and thought at first it had hit a Rangers hand, but obviously it didn’t. But it’s definitely a sending off.” And Davis was pleased to dish out St Mirren’s first league defeat of the season after the Paisley side’s promising start to the campaign.
