Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen has revealed more about what we can expect from the sequel's combat and traversal.
director Stig Asmussen revealed a few new gameplay details about the sequel's combat, traversal, and AI companions.According to Asmussen, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will feature five new fighting stances for protagonist Cal Kestis. “We have five fully realized stances in the game," Asmussen said to."A lot of it depends on the enemy that you’re coming across.
We can expect a new dual blade option and another that allows Cal to wield both a lightsaber and a blaster simultaneously."It really speaks to where we find Cal in this part of the story,” Asmussen said."It’s five years since the first game, and the dark times are still in full swing. He’s an unconventional Jedi, and he has to do unconventional things. So, something that would be frowned upon during the height of the Jedi Order? Cal’s finding he’s going to do whatever it takes.
There's also a heavy stance inspired by Kylo Ren."It’s a more confident approach,” Asmussen said."It’s weighty; it’s beefy. But you have to be very measured on how you use it because the timing windows are longer with the blade." Along with returning characters BD-1 and Cere Junda, we can expect some new faces in Jedi: Survivor, including a mercenary named Bode Akuna, who is a brother figure to Cal and will play a role as an AI companion who helps in combat and with traversal.
Speaking more on traversal, Asmussen revealed there are new mechanics that will allow for greater flexibility when it comes to exploration, including using an ascension cable to climb walls or cross gaps and the ability to tame and ride mounts."It’s much of a wider Metroidvania approach," Asmussen said."Cal can cross huge gaps by chaining several types of skills together. But it’s also about how we approach these mounts and how they’re used to negotiate and dominate the world.
