Rishi Sunak said he was committed to maintaining the pension triple lock, even if it means they would rise in line with average earnings
But he added that “while inflation is higher than we would like, I also believe it is right to step in and help people with the pressures that it brings”.
This April both benefits and pensions were uprated 10.1 per cent, in line with the inflation figure of the previous September. Government sources indicated there had been no suggestion that benefits could, instead, be uprated in line with average earnings.
