National Black Cat Day is celebrated annually on October 27, the UK’s largest such welfare charity Cats Protection having begun holding the event in 2011 to raise awareness of the plight of Stygian felines in shelters.
These range from their past association with witches and the occult to the fact that they don’t look good in selfies and also in photographs.
