Blackpool steakhouse ordered to tear down £60k extension after complaint from 'jealous neighbours'
The owner of a popular family-run restaurant on Blackpool seafront has vowed to fight a council decision to tear down a £60k glass extension.
In recent years he has spent thousands on improvements, including the extension, which he was advised would not need planning permission because it was free-standing and mainly made out of glass. Ben, 38, told LancsLive he blames the "jealousy" of a nearby residents, who put in a complaint about the conservatory-like structure.
"We are going to appeal the decision, go down the legal route," Ben told LancsLive. "We did most of the renovations in lockdown, I did my due diligence and the company that built it told us we wouldn't need planning permission because it was free-standing. Ben is passionate about Blackpool and playing his part in improving the town, and enjoys putting his "crazy ideas" into action. Although the iconic roof cow, which is like a beacon for the restaurant when it catches the sun, was executed expertly by his wife, who glued 55 thousand mosaic individual tiles onto the cow by hand.
Ben added: "We originally put up something that looked like a festival tent with Perspex sides as an emergency solution but it didn't look great and it needed upgrading.
