UFC 288 hit by late-notice fight cancellation just 24 hours before the event
UFC 288 has taken a hit as a fighter experiencing weight-cutting issues has led to a match-up being scrapped just 24 hours before the event.
On Friday morning, Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo made weight ahead of their bantamweight title clash at the Prudential Center in New Jersey on Saturday night.‘Triple C’ is making his highly anticipated return from a three-year retirement and is looking to win back the 135lb title before targeting fights with Sean O’Malley and featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski.
Top welterweight contenders Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad also hit their mark, as did everyone else competing on theMiddleweight fighter Joseph Holmes, who is set to open the show, came in three pounds overweight but his fight with Claudio Ribeiro will go ahead as planned after a 20 per cent purse fine.
However, the fight that was supposed to follow Holmes vs Ribeiro has been scrapped after Rafael Estevam’s weight cut went so wrong he didn’t bother weighing in.throughout fight week, hit the flyweight limit but will not be competing at UFC 288.
