Dawn Maher was on her way to pick up a friend when the crash happened
The family of a mum left fighting for her life following a horror crash in Spain say it’s a “miracle” she’s still alive. Dawn Maher was on her way to pick up a friend from Alicante airport when she was involved in a head-on smash on October 17.
Her husband Stephen says the incident has come as a “total shock” to the family. “I still don’t think it’s hit me yet,” the 59-year-old told the Manchester Evening News. Stephen can recall the moment he learned Dawn had been in a crash – and it was serious. “She was on the phone on loud speaker to a friend in the UK,” he continued.
“I was screaming in the van saying, ‘Please be alive’. I was stuck in traffic and couldn’t get too close. The firefighter who cut her out of the car said he had never cut someone out with so many injuries who was still alive.” “It’s a miracle that she is alive. Thank God all her internal organs are okay and her brain is completely fine.”
