I have not long entered my fourth decade as a journalist - that’s an old picture at the top of this column - and throughout that time I have seen some changes.
You’d be forgiven for thinking it was something the National Trust could feature in a historical open day. But it’s not that long ago really. That could be anything from personalising your shopping or classroom learning to detecting diseases, serving stuff you’re interested in on social media or even creating new programmes to track the galaxies. In the media world, the first articles written with the help of AI have already been published.
That might be because I don’t fully understand it. Or it could be because I have watched too many episodes of Black Mirror or read Frankenstein once too often and the trope of a crazed genius who brings a powerful creature to life feels less like a story and more like modern life.
