Teachers have told how high levels of classroom violence is preventing them from doing their job
Stressed out teachers have told how they are struggling to educate pupils due to increasing levels of violence in Scots schools.
In February, we reported that a schoolboy was brutally beaten in a Glenrothes park in an incident that later saw five teens charged with attempted murder. In early March we also told how another pupil was allegedly kicked unconscious outside Kirkcaldy High School as an adult woman stood by and 'cheered her attacker on'.
"Punishment has become a dirty word for many school managers. Unless pupils know there is a consequence for their actions, nothing will change."Graeme Keir, EIS Fife representative, said: "We've got staff experiencing violent incidents every day in some schools. The council has a duty of care for their employees and a duty to provide a safe learning environment for learners, but they have been slow to react.
The Labour representative said: "Over the last number of weeks I have spoken with many teachers and they all raised with me that the levels of behavioural issues and violence in schools is at unprecedented levels and they need more support in schools to be able to address this.
