The rise has moved Aldi back into third place
For many across the UK keeping food costs down on a weekly shop has become essential amid the cost of living crisis. One supermarket which has vowed to become as cheap as Aldi, is one spot from being the cheapest of all.
Now, Sainsbury’s has moved up a spot and is now behind Lidl. However, it’s not due to Sainsbury’s cutting prices, but down to Tesco increasing the price of its 300g pack of chicken breasts from £2.29 to £2.60. Only Asda is more expensive for that product, at £3 a pack.The rise has also moved Aldi back into third place, after more than a fortnight. MEN’s comparison has tracked the prices of the same basics since March 2022.
Sainsbury's is £12.07, just a penny cheaper than Aldi's £12.08, with Tesco now at £12.37, and Morrisons a penny cheaper than Asda at £12.79.
