A Freedom of Information request also found there were 70 misconduct hearings where gross misconduct was proven

There are currently 52 police officers and eight members of PSNI staff who are currently suspended from the force for a variety of reasons, including gross misconduct investigations and a criminal conviction.

A Freedom of Information request has shown that over the course of 2022, it cost police £2,605,280 for officers who were suspended that year and £77,426 for staff suspended until January 31, 2023. There are also 17 officers facing multiple internal misconduct cases, 13 facing two allegations and two officers facing three and two with four live cases.The PSNI have said that all its officers are held to high standards and that an officer is only suspended in exceptional circumstances.

“The Code of Ethics sets out clearly the Service’s expectations of police officers. Any officer in breach of these standards can expect to be subject to appropriate disciplinary processes.
