EncroChat user boasted criminal contacts abroad but left country when his secret identity was rumbled

A heroin and cocaine trafficker known as "Sylvester the Cat" fled the country after his lockdown haircut brought the police to his door.

He also mentioned his partner's name and spoke of her being pregnant, even disclosing the name which had been chosen for the then unborn baby. Tick lists were later seized when Merseyside Police raided his home - the front door of which was protected with metal sheeting - on September 17 2020, indicating he "remained actively involved in the supply of drugs" despite the takedown of EncroChat.

These showed that he boasted "connections abroad" and was "close to the supply of drugs into the UK". But the defendant faced no importation charges as he "did not make a specific agreement to import" during these conversations. "There is a significant amount of progress this defendant has made while in custody. He has a long sentence and he is approaching that in the correct manner, with a desire to put himself in a position so that when he does leave custody he will be in a position to lawfully look after his family."
