Otmar Szafnauer, the ex-Racing Point team principal, who endured a mild stint at Alpine, has departed from the Enstone-based team.The Romanian-born team principal finished with moderate success at thewith a sensational third for Pierre Gasly. He will be replaced for the remainder of the season by Alpine’s VP of motorsport, Bruno Famin.
Szafnauer has now left Alpine, along with Pat Fry and Alan Permane, as of Monday this week. The former Team Principal spoke out about his departure and what he feel the future looks like.“It’s just my worry is for the all the wonderful men and women at Enstone and Viry that work hard and do a good job. I hope their future is bright.
“I was just getting into my stride, starting to know everybody, how to motivate them. You know, a high tide lifts all boats, and I was just getting to the point where I was raising the tide. “There were people, not me so much, but people crying and saying goodbye. I told them, ‘Look, I’m still alive, I didn’t die! I’ll be alright.’”Despite the news of Szafnauer’s departure during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend, the team managed to have a strong weekend. The aforementioned sprint podium by Gasly was just the start as Esteban Ocon put on a successful recovery drive from 14place finish, just behind the McLaren of Lando Norris.
