🔴 The Taliban has ordered domestic and foreign charities working in Afghanistan to stop employing women, it has been reported.

The Taliban claimed it had received “serious complaints” about female staff working for NGOs not wearing the “correct” headscarf, or hijab. It was not immediately clear if the order applies to all women or only Afghan women at the NGOs.

On Tuesday, a letter shared by the spokesman for the higher education ministry, Ziaullah Hashmi, instructed all universities to ban women as soon as possible and to inform the ministry as soon as the ban had been imposed. There has been widespread international condemnation of the university ban, with the US and G7 countries warning the policy will have consequences for the Taliban.
