Surely Labour’s proposed report card system would be a big improvement on the current reductivism? It insults parents’ intelligence to suggest that we need a single word report 🖋️ stefanohat for ipaperviews

Ofsted itself knows that so much meaning resides in the word or words used to sum up an inspection. Amid a backdrop of concerns about the standards, in particular, of primary schools, the word “satisfactory” was changed to two words in 2013: “requires improvement”. The worst term, it should be noted, is “inadequate”.

Teachers claim that inspectors don’t know enough about schools, teaching and particularly the subjects they inspect. Spielman claimed falsely that all inspectors had been previously school leaders. This is simply not true. It is not a requirement in the job spec. She also evaded the question about her own teaching credentials. Spielman had been. As a teacher, it is impossible to understand how inspectors can make judgements without having been teachers themselves.

Parents only got a little taste of this when trying to help “teach” during lockdown.would be a big improvement on the current reductivism? It insults parents’ intelligence to suggest that we need a single word report. And anything that helps heads and other teachers avoid the stresses that Perry felt is surely to be supported.
