🔴 Teachers union boss refuses to rule out strikes during children's exams
January 10, 2023 9:12 amTeaching unions in England and Wales are currently balloting members for strike action, while two days of walkouts will close almost every school in Scotland from Tuesday.
The National Education Union , school leaders union NAHT and the NASUWT will all be announcing ballot results in the coming days.during exams, the joint general secretary of the National Education Union Kevin Courtney did not rule it out, before insisting a strike could take place on an exam day and “not disrupt the exams”.: “We don’t want to have any strikes, we will declare our ballot result on Monday, we hope there are some more talks this week. We don’t want to call any of the strike action.
Mr Courtney added that the NEU will declare a plan for strike action if the ballot approves it but will postpone that if the Government appears serious about negotiating on pay during talks. He continued: “If there are exams on, teachers are preparing those children for exams for a long period beforehand. You can have a strike on an exam day and not disrupt the exams.
