Lancaster teen William Verden given 'gift of life' after donor match enables transplant
A teenager who needed a life-saving kidney transplant has been given the 'gift of life' after a match was found for him.
His mother Ami McLennan, 45, from Lancaster, since made an appeal for a donor for an operation which is said to have a 50% chance of success. On Sunday Ami announced that a match had been found for the young golf fanatic and the transplant had gone ahead.Writing on the 'Team William' Facebook page, Ami said: "The hospital have found a AAA match for William's kidney transplant.
"I will never be able to repay this person for this chance for my William. Today is a very mixed feeling of happy and sad. "This could be the beginning of a whole new chapter for William and I just hope and pray everything goes well. But it’s such a mix of emotions. Honestly feel like my heart's going to break leaving my baby boy on that table knowing what he’s got to go through and also knowing it still could possibly fail. But we will cross that bridge if we come to it and I'll be by his side holding his hand.
