A teenager from Newport will open her own bakery after winning a £10,000 young carers grant from Barnardo’s UK
Tegan Godden first discovered a love for baking during lockdown, after making regular sweet treats with her disabled aunt Scarlett.
Now, the 19-year-old is about to open her very own bakery after winning a £10,000 young carers grant from Barnardo’s UK.’s Alice and Wonderland. Tegan adds that if the bakery takes off she wants to expand her business and teach young people new skills.Her business is called Bonkers Bakes Tegan was raised by her grandparents after her father died when she was five and says she’s got a nurturing personanilty, after growing up around disabled adults.
She also joined a young carers group with other children who were going through a similar experience.She said: ‘I want people to come into the bakery and feel like they don’t have to fit in as it’s a welcoming space. I have made it adaptable for people with disabilities to access.’
