These thieves, drug dealers and fraudsters made life very easy for the police
Thousands of criminals pass through the courts every week to learn their fates for a wide range of offences. Some have committed calculated and carefully planned crimes, some have gone to great lengths to cover up their misdeeds.
Other cases include a woman who invited police into the home where her husband was operating a cannabis farm and a dealer who repeatedly offered drugs to a police officer. However the judge said two years have passed since the flood and Morgan has now moved back to the family home and plays an active part in his daughter’s life. “My view is that to put you in prison after all this delay would be a form of injustice”, he said. He handed Morgan, of Mainway, Lancaster, an 11 month sentence but said it could be suspended for 15 months. The judge ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £300 compensation.
He was described at Preston Crown Court as showing “significant naivety” by his own defence counsel. Prosecuting, David Clarke told the court that Miller was driving a Ford Transit van on the A59 Brockholes Brow when he activated a speed camera which caught him at 49mph in a 40mph zone. He took £2,000 cash from a pensioner in Gloucester before striking again to steal thousands of pounds of jewellery from a home in Blackpool. On the first occasion, he left behind a DNA-strewn jacket, while his fingerprints were identified in his work at Blackpool.
In a bid to get her out of his pocket without taking his wallet, the pensioner grabbed Ball’s wrist and tried to push her into the hallway and out of his house. Ultimately, Ball, of Queensway, Church, proved too strong for the victim and she ran off with his wallet, which contained around £90, in the direction of Sydney Street.
Prosecuting, Kim Obrusik said: “When the police attended, they said they would need to search the property. She said ‘I can’t deal with this’ and ‘can you come back in an hour?’. The officers explained why it was necessary to and proceeded to go ahead with the search accompanied by another member of the family.”
Judge Gioserino continued: “I’m dealing with you three-and-a-half years after the event and very little of that delay is of your making. It took 18 months just for the two of you to be charged and then the Covid pandemic has caused further delay. Both of you have been in no further trouble in that time.”
“The cost of repairing graffiti is enormous - money which could otherwise be invested back into the network. In addition it also causes disruption to services and inconvenience to passengers as trains are taken out of service to be cleaned.
