Marcus Rashford and Casemiro were the equivalent of those City players for Manchester United last term and rather unsurprisingly, Erik ten Hag's side have suffered a dire start to the season while that pair have underperformed. Rashford and Casemiro were instrumental in the success of last season and both are yet to deliver this time around. It would have been unthinkable to drop either player but there are now calls for both to lose their starting roles.
"It's normal not to be always at the same levels. Everyone knows the quality of him, also the opposition knows, but if Rashy is doing things right and the team is doing things right, putting him in the right places, then it's up to him. Alejandro Garnacho is the alternative on the left side and there were loud cheers from the Stretford End when he replaced Rashford just after the hour mark against Brentford.
The Brazilian was hooked at the interval and replaced by Christian Eriksen for tactical reasons. "I wanted more football," Ten Hag said after the game. "One who brings passing, distribution, link-up play. So I thought bring Christian Eriksen for Case."
