More than 30 MPs could be forced to quit their second jobs under plans to stop elected politicians having roles as consultants.
The Commons standards committee is believed to be thinking about banning MPs from taking up second jobs as consultants or advisors Andrew Mitchell, Conservative MP for Sutton Coldfield, receives £182,600 for 34.5 days of work. He works for major accountancy firm Ernst & Young, who pay him £30,000 for five days’ work, and has been a senior advisor to investment company Investec.
