One culture expert told i that 'reputation destroys a career, but a mugshot actually doesn't'
. But it is not the first time a high-profile individual or celebrity has used these notorious images to convey a message, experts say.
“The important thing for a celeb is to look at least like they are going to adhere to what the police and the law are saying and play the game, rather than be like Justin Bieber and think it’s a photoshoot for your next album cover.” Mr Ede said mugshots – unlike the rest of a celebrity’s life where they often had complete control of their image – can’t “be airbrushed” from history.
Mr Ede said history shows mugshots do not always destroy someone’s career, in some cases becoming an iconic image integral to the celebrity’s life story.“It’s a stake in the ground, it’s part of their life, people get arrested every day, they happen to be very famous, but it doesn’t destroy their career. Reputation destroys their career but a mugshot actually doesn’t – it can become a piece of art by the end of their lifetime.
