A Syrian father whose house came crashing down on his wife and children in last week's devastating earthquake has said his town has become 'a graveyard' 'The whole area is destroyed, with bodies everywhere'

Mahmoud Muhammad Qazeckli Fakkik, 58, has no idea which of his family members are alive after last week’s earthquake destroyed his hometown of Jindires in Syria A Syrian father whose house came crashing down on his wife and children in last week’s devastating earthquake has said his town has become “a graveyard”.

Several of Mr Qazeckli Fakkik’s cousin’s young children were killed in the quake which “wiped out” neighbourhoods around Jindires, the town where he lives in northern Syria.His children and wife were injured and the building where his brothers live was destroyed, leaving people trapped under the wreckage.

Mr Qazeckli Fakkik said the “ground shook” at around 4am last Monday before the roof of his house “came crashing down on my wife and children”.Mr Qazeckli Fakkik fears people will die from cold and hunger if help does not arrive soon “I have been hearing rescue workers coming out with either survivors or bodies from time to time, but their voices have become quieter as the days have passed.
