So a little more about me – my name is Melissa and I have a 2 year old son named River. I’m an advocate for all things confidence, body neutrality andSelf love is like any other kind of therapy, in that it takes a lot of introspective, hard, constant work. It’s not overnight, it will ebb and flow, and it’s unique to everyone. But I want to show that whoever you are, and whatever your story is, confidence is available to everyone.
It’s the season of giving – and I don’t just mean gifts. How often does something that was important to you as mum not go to plan, leaving you feeling dejected and snappy? And how often out of those times did youmake it clear beforehand what you were hoping to gain? Our families aren’t mind readers, it’s important for us to let them know our feelings, and encourage them to do the same too.
It’s really important to find a balance that is healthy for everyone. Maybe your 5 year old can have those nuggets, but you’ll still expect them to remain at the table until the whole family is done. Or limiting time with the new toy, or making sure you reconvene at a certain time for a family board game. Getting in front of these limitations means less upset all around – it’s much easier for everyone to deal with rules when they know them ahead of time.
I’ve avoided Father Christmas this year, because although my son loves seeing him on the TV and in books, I am 99.99% certain if we booked a Santa visit, he’d hate every second of it. While it might be a magical experience for some other 2 year olds, it wouldn’t be for mine – so why would I do it?
