Most books in Iceland are sold in the months leading up to Christmas; a tradition dubbed the Jólabókaflóð or the “Christmas book flood.” 🎄📚 It’s a tradition many Icelanders hold dear
“I watch closely what books are being released and study the annual catalogue that is published at the beginning of the Jólabókaflóð carefully to create my reading list,” he says.
The nation’s love for the book flood begins in early childhood when parents and grandparents give books to children. “I was especially excited about getting new Tintin“I suppose my favourite book I got for Yule as a child was the Tintin classic. It features my hometown of Akureyri in the north of Iceland, and I was really impressed with that back in the day.
“The Jólabókaflóð is an annual tsunami of freshly published literature titles covering everything under the sun, and it is one of my household’s favourite traditions. It is a welcome inspiration to spark the children’s interest in reading.
