Ex-partners Michael Hillier and Rachel Fulstow were today convicted of Liam Smith's murder
Staring into the camera following their arrest in the wake of an unthinkable act of violence, this is the killer couple behind the murder of a father in a gun and acid attack. Ex-partners Michael Hillier and Rachel Fulstow were today convicted of Liam Smith's murder.
Hillier, 39, blasted dad-of-two Mr Smith in the face yards from his home in Wigan, before throwing sulphuric acid over his body. He said he was acting in revenge after his girlfriend Fulstow told him she'd been raped by Mr Smith years earlier during a Tinder date.She did not go to the police. The pair instead decided to seek 'vigilante justice'.
Following a six week trial at Minshull Street Crown Court, Hillier and Fulstow were both found unanimously guilty of murder. Jurors deliberated for six hours and 44 minutes. Following the hearing, Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: "Our investigation team have worked tirelessly over the past 8 months to find answers for Liam’s family and hopefully the decisions in court today will give them some form of closure.
