Consider a possible future. If we pass more and more responsibility to AI – allowing it access to transport, power stations, financial transactions, and even weapon systems – we’ll see all sorts of benefits, but we’ll also put ourselves at greater and greater risk of chimpanzeedom. That is, we’ll risk putting ourselves at the mercy of a highly-capable intelligence we don’t truly understand, and which might well not see our survival as a particular priority.
