'We’re on a mission to challenge perceptions of fast food'
Bondi Beach is known for its white sands, clear seas and perfect waves for surfers. Whilst Manchester has none of that going for itself, it does have a new concept that is at least bringing the vibes of the Australian beach to the city centre.
On the menu are the likes of the classic bondi bowl, consisting of black rice, kale, edamame beans, charred corn, tomatoes, picked vegetables, sesame seeds, hummus, seed sprouts and a miso dressing. Bondi Bowls also sell freshly-made smoothies, soups, kombucha from Laid Bear and coffee from Allpress. Jamie says he hopes Bondi Bowls will become a popular spot for lunch goers as they seek out a better alternative to what’s currently available.
The venue, which has 30 seats inside and space for a further 20 outside, will officially open on Monday. The ‘unapologetically contemporary’ space features little nods to Bondi Beach and can now call the likes of Pollen and Madre as near-by neighbours. For Jamie and the team, it’s been a long time coming.
And it’s not just serving good lunches that Bondi Bowls wants to do. Alongside plans to launch a breakfast menu in the very near future, and a take-home range of products, including original dressings, granola and that soon-to-be famous spiced coconut, there’s big things in the works.
