'I am horrified that someone so evil exists. I miss everything that we should have had.'
The distraught parents of Lucy Letby's victims read out heartbreaking statements in court today ahead of her sentencing - describing her as 'evil' and 'disconnected from God'.
In full, the statement said: "2015 was going to be the best year of our lives we were going to become parents to [our babies]. Everything was perfect our babies were doing well in the neonatal unit. We were told that [our baby] needed a little bit of extra help but was doing well and that [other baby] was very strong and doing really well.
"We are so thankful that we had that fear for [other baby] as it saved [their] life, not allowing you to fully do the same. After losing [baby] we made sure that there was always a member of family watching. "You thought it was your right to play god with our children’s lives. Our lives are tough, we struggle with anxiety, depression and PTSD and sometimes we almost want to give up.
"You killed them on purpose. You are evil." The mum of Baby C, who was murdered by Letby, sobbed as she read her statement in court. "The shock and panic of the night that [they] collapsed will stay with me forever. It was so sudden, so unbelievable. It really felt like I was watching someone else’s life not my own.
"I miss everything that we should have had - first smile, first word, birthdays, christmasses and the physical feeling of that bond. I think about what [their] voice would have sounded like, what [they] might have looked like now, who [they] would have been. "It made me feel closer to [them]. On 3rd July 2018 when Lucy Letby was first arrested these few tangible memories I had of my [baby] felt tainted... she took those hand and foot prints, I felt so conflicted as to what that meant so I stopped wearing them - I needed to understand what part Lucy Letby had played in the death of my defenceless baby.
"You have betrayed and manipulated those you worked with and the many families who put their tiny precious babies and all of their hope in your hands. There is no sentence that will ever compare to the excruciating agony we have suffered as a consequence of your murder of our [baby]. "Never did I imagine Baby E would die. 2015 our world shattered by the person disguised as a caring nurse", she said.
"She bathed [Baby E] and dressed [Baby E] in a gown, [Baby E] was buried in that gown. I feel sickened by choice we made. "If it happened once it could happen again. It breaks my heart to think things could have been so different for [Baby F]. "Lucy was right, she killed them on purpose. Feel like my [children] were just a pawn in her twisted game.
"The mum of Baby G finds hard to trust people in hospital because of what happened. We have nurses coming into our home. "She [they] was born [they] was doing really well for a baby born at 27 weeks. Liverpool Women's were made up with how [they] was doing and [they] didn't need the type of care Liverpool Women's offered.
"I decided to go and see a friend", she added. "Then I got a call to get to the hospital ASAP. I kept thinking why is this still happening. "On the night [they] died, I was speaking to nurses, told [they] could be home for christmas. Later that night we had a missed call. "The stress and strain have been unbearable at times" Statements were read on behalf of the parents of Baby L and M, who Letby attempted to kill.
"I also have had to take a course of anti- depressants to help me cope with this. I have also had a seizure for the first ever in my life since all this has been going on and this traumatised my kids as they were with me at the time of the seizure. "All I ever wanted to be was a mum." The prosecutor read of a statement on behalf of Baby N's mum, who Letby attempted to kill."When [they] were born I stayed in the hospital for five days, recovering from a C-section. My husband returned to work.
"Having to listen to what she did to the other babies weighs heavy, we know what that feels like. All because of evil actions of someone else. "Having to come to terms with the police investigation has been unbearable. Lucy Letby was the last person to hold our [baby]. "A specialist consultant later informed us that it was extremely rare to see naturally conceived identical triplets. There were concerns about twin-to-twin syndrome and we were given several difficult choices to make in relation to the triplets.
"We introduced our eldest son to them and things were going well. A few days later things went downhill. "We both went immediately down to the unit where I met my father in the corridor. I informed my father 'it’s happening again'. My partner broke down in tears, we feared the worse.
