Top designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has also designed a new Spitfire installation in homage to the town's aircraft heritage
An Asian family's connection to an ice cream van and the world-famous Spitfire fighter plane are part of the inspiration behind the new Blackpool Illuminations installations for 2023.
"We didn't have anything like this in Liverpool. Life has come full circle and I'm quite emotional seeing it today." Finally, TV designer Laurence has collaborated with model kit company Airfix to create Spitfire Island. Speaking specifically about the Spitfire installation, Laurence says they are an "iconic totem" for the seaside resort" and a symbol of a "community coming together".
"The Arts Council getting involved was the game-changer and means we can get wonderful artists like Chila involved. Other fresh features and highlights of the illuminations programme this year for the millions set to marvel at the colourful creations include a flash back through the years.
