According to the leaked, achingly right-on 40-page dossier, Coutts paradoxically jettisoned Farage’s account out of reputational concerns of being associated with him – with the pretext that his mortgage has rolled to an end. His long history of pugnacious, sometimes offensive commentary, along with a friendship with Donald Trump, was too much to bear.
This ultra-progressive trend extends across the public realm – particularly in parts of the Civil Service – but the private sector’s culpability is often overlooked. As Michael Gove, the Levelling Up Secretary,in a speech earlier this year, “The growth in identity politics has encouraged division between those who must check their privilege and those encouraged to nurse their grievance.”
But the economic climate, with rampant inflation and rising interest rates, has made it hard to prosper. This is no time to be distracted by PR stunts, social justice campaigns . Were more wealth creators breaking boundaries and bucking the economic trend, devoting time to the social aspects of their work would be more acceptable. Yet even a slight glance at the country’s prospects confirms that, however good their intentions may be, the priorities of some businesses are off.
