Once again, the Princess of Wales chose a sentimental piece of pearl jewellery – a gemstone traditionally associated with royals in mourning.

Since Her Majesty’s death on 8 September, the period of national mourning – and the associated processions, services and– has dominated the headlines in Britain and beyond. But in Ukraine, war continues to rage. An acknowledgement of the ongoing crisis, the meeting also appeared to reflect the increasingly high-profile nature of the duties falling to Kate, now that her husband is first in line to the throne and she is Princess of Wales.
. Kate wore a bracelet made up of three strands of pearls, which previously belonged to her late mother-in-law – and her predecessor as Princess of Wales – Princess Diana. A day earlier, she wore a pearl necklace that was once the Queen’s to join Prince William at a lunch for governors general of Commonwealth nations. And before that, she wore Her Majesty’s
to attend a service in Westminster Hall, where the Queen’s coffin has been lying in state ahead of the funeral.
