The LSU Tigers are your 2023 college baseball national champions. Three of the top five projected picks in the upcoming MLB Draft starred last night, one way or another. Plus, we now have details on how the PGA/LIV merger might work. The Pulse ⤵️

The Diamondbacks? Still here. The Reds and Giants are the two hottest teams in baseball. The Rangers are a wagon. A ton of surprises, right? I went to The Athletic baseball writer/Windup head man Levi Weaver for context.

Chris: Where does this season rank so far on the surprise scale for you? Can you think of a good comp in recent memory?: Every year has something like this, but it’s usually one or two teams. The Marlins in that weird, shortened 2020 season. The Rangers in 2015 and 2016. The Orioles even as recently as last year!

But looking across the league, the sheer number of surprises — both for the good and the bad — is pretty wild. Who would have thought the Marlins, Diamondbacks, Reds and Giants would be in a playoff position and the Mets, Cardinals, Phillies, Padres, Mariners, Astros and Guardians would not? I think once the Reds get their pitching healthy , their offense is pesky enough to emerge from a relatively soft NL Central.
