In a hilarious response, actor David Schwimmer pleaded his innocence
This week marks four years since a suspected thief caught on CCTV become an overnight social media sensation thanks to Blackpool Police and David Schwimmer.
The suspected offender was pictured holding a large pack of beer in a convenience store, looking directly at the camera. And users were quick to comment claiming the pictured man must surely be Friends star David Schwimmer. One person wrote: "I don't think it's been this guy's day, his week, his month or even his year." And another commented: "Lay off him. He grew up with Monica. IF YOU DIDN'T EAT FAST YOU DIDN'T EAT."
Comedy Central, the current home of Friends in the UK, also got in on the action. They mocked up their own 'wanted' poster that references the famous show. On November 13, 2018, it was announced that an arrest had been made. The Manchester Evening News reported how a 36-year-old man was arrested in Southall, West London, by Met Police officers, on suspicion of theft from a Blackpool restaurant on September 20 that year.
"He was then caught on CCTV carrying cans of beers to the till at an Iceland store, the court was told." The report continued: "Following a two-day trial, Husseini was convicted by a jury on Thursday of one count of theft and four counts of fraud by false representation.
