Londoners deserve better than Korski and Khan 🖊️ Being a figurehead for what should be the greatest city in the world is no easy task, but building houses, eschewing wasteful vanity projects and reopening pubs would be a good start, writes alysdenby
Khan can’t be blamed for the likes of WE Soda’s decision to cancel its £7bn IPO from the London Stock Exchange or the symbolic blow of HSBC withdrawing from Canary Wharf. Brexit was always going to be a challenge to London’s position as a centre for global finance – but Khan should have recognised that and worked harder to make the City as attractive as possible to international businesses., which will soon expand to the parts of the city with the worst public transport.
For Londoners, his soul-sapping tenure has made the city we love less exciting and energetic. The empty streets of Westminster on a weekday evening, where pubs once rammed with MPs, journalists and thinktankers, now close at 10.30pm, perfectly demonstrate the vacuity of his political project. Londoners deserve better than Korski and Khan. Being a figurehead for what should be the greatest city in the world is no easy task, but building houses, eschewing wasteful vanity projects and reopening the pubs would be a good start – at least for those of us who like a drink and a gossip.Topics
